Chinese Translator – Chemical Engineering

About the Role

We are seeking a proficient Chinese–English Translator with an educational or professional background in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.

The selected candidate will support communication between our internal project teams and Chinese-speaking suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, and technical consultants. The role will involve translating technical discussions, documents, specifications, commercial communications, and project-related correspondence.

The ideal candidate should be able to accurately interpret engineering and chemical terminology while maintaining the technical meaning, confidentiality, and professional tone of all communications.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide real-time Chinese–English and English–Chinese interpretation during online and in-person meetings.
• Translate technical documents, equipment specifications, process descriptions, drawings, manuals, quotations, and supplier correspondence.
• Support communication with Chinese equipment manufacturers, engineering companies, suppliers, and technical representatives.
• Accurately interpret terminology related to chemical engineering, process equipment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, piping, instrumentation, pressure systems, utilities, quality, and safety.
• Assist the project, engineering, procurement, and commercial teams in clarifying technical and contractual matters with Chinese suppliers.
• Review translated documents to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
• Prepare written summaries, meeting notes, action items, and follow-up communications when required.
• Maintain an organized record of translated documents and technical terminology.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding project information, supplier quotations, designs, commercial terms, and technical documentation.
• Be available for meetings scheduled across different time zones, with reasonable advance notice.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Strong verbal interpretation and written translation skills.
• Ability to understand and accurately communicate technical and engineering concepts.
• Previous experience working with Chinese manufacturers, engineering companies, industrial equipment suppliers, or technical projects would be an advantage.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical, chemical processing, manufacturing, biotechnology, or industrial equipment sectors would be beneficial.
• Familiarity with technical documents such as process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment datasheets, technical quotations, and operating manuals would be an advantage.
